CANDLE CARE

Carefully burning your NHRTNC candles is the key to safely filling your home with the most luxurious scents.

Remember open flames are hazardous when not properly monitored. Please use the guidelines below to care for your candles before, during, and after burning.

Before You Burn

  • Prior to lighting your candle for the first time, be sure that the wick is ¼ inch. This prevents uneven burning, dripping or flaring. Using a wick trimmer is ideal to create a clean cut.
  • For your first burn, keep the candle burning for at least 2 hours to create a proper wax pool. Failure to do this step will lead to tunneling and uneven burns.
  • Always keep the pool of wax free of wick trimmings and any debris.
  • As candle wax gets lower, consider using a longer match or electric lighter to light your wick.
  • Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This helps to prevent possible heat damage to surfaces, and prevent the glass candle containers from cracking.
  • To prevent uneven or accelerated burning and soot, avoid placing your candles near drafts, vents or air currents.

Let it Burn

  • Babysit your candle. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Be sure to extinguish all candles before leaving or sleeping.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle. Never move a candle container when the wax is still liquified.
  • Burn for 2-4 hours each time you light the candle to help the candle burn evenly. Burn time varies by candle size. Remember to trim wicks before each burn.
  • Do not burn a candle all the way down. To maintain safety, stop burning a candle when there is ¼ inch of wax left in the vessel or the wick no longer holds a consistent flame.
  • If burning multiple candles, maintain a distance of at least three inches between each candle.
  • Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high (some flickering is natural with wooden wicks but the flame should not spark or be too high). Before re-lighting, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for drafts.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from chemicals, furniture, curtains, bedding, carpets, books, paper, and any other flammable material.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Do not place lit candles where they can be knocked over.

After Burn

  • To properly extinguish your flame, use a candle snuffer, if available. Snuffers are the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering.
  • Never use water to extinguish a candle, this can cause the hot wax to splatter and could potentially break a glass container.
  • Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extended burns can cause your wick to ignite the wax at its flashpoint.
  • Before leaving the room or going to sleep, make sure your candle is completely out and there is no glow coming from the wick ember.
  • Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
  • Keep your wick trimmed to ¼ inch.
  • You may notice pitting of the wax after it cools, this is a natural effect in soy-based waxes and it does not impact the performance of your candle.

Caution

If your candle is producing excessive soot, smoke, or an unstable flame, please extinguish it immediately. You can try trimming the wick (follow the instructions above) and removing any debris before relighting.
